How I use LinkedIn to generate leads and build my personal brand

– Naveen Prakash

I am Naveen Prakash, Director, Global Logistics and a proud ASCENT Member.

In the last two years I have been actively using LinkedIn as a medium for lead generation and personal brand building. Through this blog I wish to share my experiences and learning with all my fellow entrepreneurs as that is what we do at ASCENT, #LearnFromDoers.

My LinkedIn journey stared in year 2018, when I did my entrepreneurship development program under a business coach.

I was asked to use any Social Media Chanel for a Marketing assignment for my organisation.

I chose Linkedin as it appeared more sober to me compared to FB & Youtube, until I realised these amazing facts about LinkedIn.

  •  LinkedIn has 800 Million users
  • 70% of all the marketers suggest LinkedIn for B2B
  • 40% were actually generating revenues.
  • Customer Acquisition cost is almost Nil, if the user is the author (like in my case).
  • LinkedIn InMail has better response compared to generic Email.

I decided to join the 1% club of LinkedIn by posting original content on a daily basis.  Be it updates on my business travel, Conferences I attend, updates from the Logistic Industry or just a season greeting. As a result:

— My connections shot up from 1000 to 8000 members,

— Content Engagement (Like, Comments, Share increased over 2 years)

— Per post views crossed 20K views sometimes.

— 3K+ Profile views in a 90-day period. LinkedIn premium gives you these stats on people/organisations/sectors and geography, who are viewing my profile.

— Industry leaders started recognised me at social events in India and Overseas.

This gave a boost to my personal brand as a Thought Leader, Logistics Expert, Traveller, Networker, Marketer, LinkedIn community leader in short, a Micro-Celebrity!

With my new found fame I Started hosting LinkedIn Local Networking events in Chennai which gave me a chance to engaged directly with the business owners whom I would generally won’t have access to as a sales person. As a LinkedIn expert I started to get invites from Rotary and Colleges for speaking engagements.  I also started one to one consulting for SME business owners on how to use LinkedIn and Social Media in general.

Potential clients and business associates, both domestic and international, started approaching me through LinkedIn to enquire about our services and pricing. Thus, lead generation started increasing with no extra cost.

As I am writing this blog now today, let me talk about few Leads which came to my InMail today.

  1. Export of Masks to Italy by Air 200,000 pieces.
  2. Ship spares to Miami from New Delhi
  3. RFQ from a Multi-Billion $ company for Ocean Imports into India.
  4. Domestic movement Auto components by (Air) Express mode.

LinkedIn works best for B2B business, I happy to help, below is my LinkedIn profile.
